Jo to go?

The
transfer window begins to close, and as parts of the media work
themselves into a frenzy, two strikers are the focus of attention for
City.

Daily Telegraph

"Everton poised to make Jo bid"

The
clubs are understood to be in talks over a proposed loan transfer which
would see 21-year-old Jo move to Goodison Park for the rest of the
season.

Brazilian striker Jo joined City in the summer from CSKA Moscow but has struggled to find form for Mark Hughes' team.

The
former Corinthians frontman had been a huge success in Russian football
and City paid around £19 million to bring him to Eastlands.

At
the time that was a club record fee, since surpassed by the £32.5
million City spent on Robinho, however Jo has only scored three times,
and two of those came in the UEFA Cup against Omonia Nicosia.

Everton
urgently need strengthening in attack, having recently had to rely on
midfielder Tim Cahill playing out of position as a central striker due
to an injury crisis.

Frontmen Ayegbeni Yakubu and Louis Saha
are among the players who manager David Moyes has been forced to cope
without recently, and the proposed move could benefit both Everton and
City if Jo sees regular action.

Jo's most recent appearance for City came in the FA Cup defeat to Nottingham Forest on Jan 3.

"Blackburn challenge City to raise Roque Santa Cruz bid"

Sam Allardyce has thrown down the gauntlet to Manchester City over Roque Santa Cruz.

Blackburn's
manager has challenged his club's Premier League rivals to raise their
bid for the Paraguayan striker after City's £20 million offer was
rejected.

"Between now and the end of the window on Monday it's
not in our hands, it's in other people's hands to make another bid if
they're going to," Allardyce said.

"At the moment we're not
selling him and there have been no further bids from anybody regarding
trying to secure Roque from us. We're in the position where we have to
try and sit the last two days out and hope that no other bids come in."

Blackburn will consider selling their prized asset for £25
million but a £30 million bid must be referred to the Walker family,
the club's trustees.

City sources say it is unlikely the asking
price will be met but Tottenham are also interested and may be able to
tempt Allardyce by offering a player he admires in the shape of Darren
Bent in a part-exchange deal.

"Roque would like to move and I
understand where he's coming from," Allardyce added. "It would be a big
move for him, but he needs to keep Blackburn up first.

"If a
move is going to come I don't think it should happen until the summer.
He understands that but he's not happy with it. We just simply can't
afford to lose him.

"Our Premier League status is more crucial than any amount of money we get for a player of his quality."
